Schedule: 40 hours/week. Flexible schedule, requiring occasional evenings and weekends to attend events (limited events during the pandemic).

Reports to: Executive Director

Start Date: Immediately

Location: 106 E. Main Street in Los Gatos, at the Civic Center Plaza. In-person/remote work is also flexible; however, regularly scheduled onsite work is necessary for office tasks (one to three days per week).

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Salary & Benefits:

Salary range: $40,000-$45,000, full-time, exempt.

All employees are entitled to vacation pay and start accruing vacation at .038 per hour worked, 24 hours sick time, and a family-friendly schedule.

New Museum Los Gatos | NUMU, formerly the Museums of Los Gatos, was founded in 1965. We’re a public non-profit art and history museum located in the Civic Center Plaza in downtown Los Gatos. The Position

The Communications Manager oversees communications initiatives and its associated imagery. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills. They are highly organized, a problem solver, and reliable. They nurture the NUMU brand as a dynamic Bay Area arts and culture destination, whether virtually or in-person. This position is ideal for an early career marketing enthusiast who wants a platform to build a marketing plan, from soup to nuts. Responsibilities:

Marketing

Lead media relations activities including writing, editing, and sending press releases, submitting printed advertisements, conducting media outreach, and securing media coverage for exhibitions and programs.
Create and distribute weekly e-newsletter including developing and managing content publication schedule and distribution.
Photography and videos for virtual exhibition tours and general marketing purposes.
Identify and develop new opportunities to promote NUMU with community partners including Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, LGS Recreation, the Town of Los Gatos, etc.
Managing NUMU’s Communications Calendar containing all marketing outreach.
Website

Manage website, including writing, editing and updating content including virtual tours, graphics, and images.
Ensure all website content is up-to-date and published on schedule.
Ensure the website reflects accessibility best practices.
Social media

Oversee strategy and management of social media platforms with regular engagement (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter).
Intentional about creating content that is culturally aware and relevant, reflects NUMU’s commitment to equity and diversity, and responsive to current topics in museums, art, and culture.
Design

Write, edit and design collateral materials including promotional flyers, membership materials, exhibition materials, presentation materials, program signage, and social media posts.
Support the development of membership and donor collateral and distribution.
Skills and Qualifications

Demonstrable marketing experience, design and photography aptitude, and a zeal for communications.
Possess strong writing, editing and verbal communications skills.
Demonstrate creative thinking and problem solving skills to support strategic communications goals and initiatives.
Ability to prioritize and work in a timely and efficient manner.
Participates effectively in a small team environment where everyone wears a variety of professional hats.
Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Squarespace, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
Preferred experience in a museum or other arts or cultural organization, and/or a passion for arts and culture.
