Communications Coordinator

Overview: The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic Communications Specialist to join our team. The incumbent will be a critical member of a thriving association communications team. They will have strong writing and proofreading skills, knowledge of media relations and experience with working industry level and national media. It is critical that the candidate be well-organized and ambitious with a strong work ethic and the ability to prioritize requests, meeting multiple deadlines while still maintaining top-quality work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for coordinating and developing ACCA’s weekly and monthly email newsletters (From the Desk, Membership Matters, Government Relations Update, Tech Talk, Buzz, PAC, etc.).
Responsible for drafting and sending press releases to trade press, local press, and national press.
Responsible for developing and updating media contact lists and developing relationships with media contacts.
Responsible for proofreading and editing articles for magazine, blogs, and newsletters.
Responsible for layout of ACCA Now Magazine and ensuring that all ads are placed properly.
Collaborates with Communications Assistant to ensure that all ad materials are received in a timely manner.
Collaborates with staff to schedule and market ACCA’s webcasts.
Responsible for making updates to ACCA’s website (i.e. posting blogs, magazine articles, etc.)
Collaborate with marketing to schedule promotions of webcast and other communications projects via social media, print, and online ads.
Establish and maintain ACCA Clip Service.
Additional opportunities as required.

We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal skills and writing experience who can provide excellent customer service and interact with all levels of the association.

Minimum 3 years of experience in media/magazine/newsletter management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to communicate with a wide variety of people including staff, board members, and industry partners.
Excellent proofreading and editing skills to ensure content is delivered clean and concise.
Excellent phone skills with the dedication to make numerous calls over the course of a day.
Broad knowledge of headlines.
Computer proficiency (MS Office, digital editing, web search, and databases)
Knowledge of WordPress, online email marketing programs, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) a plus.
Ability to be flexible, multi-task and manage own time and priorities to meet publication deadlines; able to turn around superior quality products within often limited turnaround times.
Self-starter, quick learner, can-do attitude, and friendly.
Strong desire to be proactive by looking for opportunities to grow professionally.
Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
Reports to: Director of Member Communications and Committee Liaison

Location: Air Conditioning Contractors of America National HQ, Alexandria, VA. Flexibility on hours worked and teleworking available.
