About the Company

Our client is a Series A, venture-backed AI company in the life-sciences space, building a natural-language platform that lets scientists generate custom research-analysis workflows in minutes instead of weeks, with full transparency and reproducibility. Their software is already used daily by research teams at several of the world's largest pharmaceutical and healthcare organizations, and the business is growing quickly.

You will build foundational product systems end-to-end as the team scales its core platform to meet enterprise demand. This is greenfield work across the full stack with real ownership from concept through production.

What you'll be doing

  • Build new features and systems from scratch across frontend and backend
  • Design and own scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
  • Ship quickly in fast sprint cycles, reaching production early
  • Partner with engineers, product, design, and applied-science colleagues to turn complex workflows into intuitive software
  • Own features end-to-end through production, iteration, and scale

Tech stack: Python, Django, React, GraphQL, AWS

Requirements
  • Substantial professional experience in full-stack or backend engineering (excluding internships)
  • A track record of building products at early-stage or high-growth startups, ideally as a founder or early employee
  • Demonstrated experience shipping and owning production systems used by real customers
  • Experience designing scalable systems, databases, and data-intensive applications
  • Strong hands-on proficiency with modern frameworks, especially Python and React
  • Experience building backend services and REST APIs (Django a plus)
  • A BS in Computer Science, a STEM field, or an equivalent technical background
  • Intellectually curious, positive, and collaborative, and comfortable working in-person in a high-communication team
  • Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco and work on-site 4–5 days a week
Nice to Haves
  • Familiarity with GraphQL and cloud infrastructure such as AWS
  • Genuine interest in life sciences, drug discovery, or computational biology
