We are seeking a Senior DeltaV Controls Engineer to join our growing Life Sciences Automation team in Raleigh, NC. In this senior-level role, you will lead the design, implementation, and project management of large-scale capital automation projects for biopharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device manufacturing facilities.

This position is ideal for an experienced DeltaV professional who thrives in delivering cGMP-compliant automation solutions, excels at managing complete project life cycles, and enjoys working with cross-functional teams to optimize manufacturing efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Implement: Develop Emerson DeltaV control systems for complex Life Sciences projects, including system architecture, batch sequencing, phase logic, and recipe design.
  • Project Leadership: Manage schedules, budgets, resources, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of automation projects.
  • HMI & Graphics: Create high-performance graphics using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate aligned with ISA-101 guidelines.
  • Electrical & Networking Design: Develop power distribution plans, panel layouts, grounding strategies, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus).
  • Integration: Connect 3rd-party equipment using OPC UA, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus protocols.
  • Compliance: Ensure all designs meet GAMP5, cGMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 regulatory standards.
  • Testing & Validation: Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to confirm system performance.
  • Mentorship: Guide and train junior engineers and project teams.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement advanced control strategies, historian integration, and alarm management to improve efficiency.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Chemical Engineering (or related field).
  • 8+ years of automation and control systems engineering experience, specifically in the Life Sciences/Pharma industry.
  • Extensive hands-on DeltaV experience (design, implementation, configuration).
  • Proficiency in DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate.
  • Strong knowledge of ISA-101 HMI design and high-performance graphics.
  • Proven experience with ISA-88 batch processing and class-based configuration.
  • Deep understanding of GAMP5, cGMP, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
  • Experience integrating automation protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, OPC UA).
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking and server infrastructure (virtualization, redundancy, cybersecurity).
  • Strong electrical design background (MCCs, VFDs, power distribution, panel layouts).
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% and work occasional extended hours/weekends as needed.

Skills Preferred:

  • Experience with Rockwell Automation, Siemens PCS7, or Ignition SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of historian solutions, IO-Link, and advanced data analytics.
  • Familiarity with alarm management strategies.
  • DeltaV or Project Management certifications.
