A dynamic, loving family based in Portola Valley, CA is seeking a creative, adventurous, and passionate private educator to provide a unique educational journey for their children!

This bustling, multinational family loves to travel and is passionate about providing a learning experience for their children that is catered to their development and their family’s lifestyle! They look forward to spending time in both New Zealand and Switzerland (and beyond!) over the year to come where they will welcome their educator to employ a world school philosophy while traveling. The majority of their “school year” will take place in Portola Valley (thirty minutes south of San Francisco) where the family has transitioned their guest cottage into a schoolhouse. The weekly schedule will consist of both one-on-one homeschool instruction for their 6-year-old daughter in addition to leading an innovative, progressive microschool for a small pod of approximately 8 local homeschool students 3 half days per week, all while following COVID safety protocols. In this microschool, they are diving into core curriculum, including reading, math, and writing, as well as additional subjects that are all inspired by the children’s interests and developmental path, including a once per week nature excursion! The family’s two younger siblings, aged 4 and 2 years old, may stop in for a lesson here or there before they officially join the classroom in the years to come. Their household includes a full-time, loving nanny to provide childcare support so their educator can focus fully on education, with an emphasis on real-world learning over textbooks!

The ideal candidate for this position will be passionate about progressive education and fostering a love for learning in their students! The family hopes to find an educator with a rich background in working with elementary-aged children who is excited to provide a hands-on, alternative learning experience. A passion for child-led learning is key, and a background in progressive learning approaches such as Montessori is a huge plus! This educator will be responsible for homeschool instruction, leading the microschool, balancing core curriculum with progressive, child-led learning approaches, as well as organizing field trips to the museum and nature excursions; a volunteer parent will be on hand as needed to provide additional support. While traveling with the family, this educator will be expected to research destinations and plan field trips and educational experiences based on each location. A candidate who is highly organized but flexible and open to spontaneity will thrive in this role! The family hopes for a candidate who can be a collaborative presence to work side by side with the parents to create the best educational experience for their children. A candidate who looks forward to making a multi-year commitment to this dynamic family and incorporating the younger children as they join the classroom will be a huge bonus!
