Our client is seeking a Medical Director to lead psychiatric services within an outpatient behavioral health program serving children, adolescents, and adults. This role combines direct psychiatric care with medical leadership, clinical oversight, and participation in quality and compliance initiatives. The Medical Director supports trauma‑informed, culturally responsive care and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high‑quality service delivery.

Work Schedule: 20–30 hours/week

Please Note:

  • Caseload varies based on client needs
  • This is a 1099 independent contractor role (not W‑2)
  • Must be comfortable working with children, adults, and individuals with substance use disorders

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate psychiatric service delivery across the organization.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications; order and interpret laboratory tests.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, and required clinical documentation.
  • Provide onsite psychiatric services daily, with telehealth available based on client and program needs.
  • Offer clinical consultation and oversight to clinicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in behavior treatment committee meetings and approve behavior plans.
  • Assist in developing and refining clinical procedures, protocols, and service standards.
  • Evaluate the quality and appropriateness of psychiatric and medical services.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, compliance reviews, root cause analyses, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
  • Provide in‑service training on psychiatric and clinically relevant topics.
  • Participate in recruitment, supervision, and peer review of psychiatric staff, including nurse practitioners and residents.

Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • Valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation.
  • Cultural competence and ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Current malpractice insurance (required for 1099 contractors)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience treating both child and adult populations.
  • Experience working with substance use disorders and dual‑diagnosis clients.
  • Ability to work onsite daily and provide telehealth services as needed.
  • Proficiency with behavioral health EMRs and telehealth platforms (e.g., Doxy‑style systems, Zoom, Teams)
  • Trauma‑informed leadership and strong clinical judgment within complex psychiatric service systems.
  • Familiarity with community mental health systems, preferably within Wayne County.
  • M.D. or D.O. with an active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Michigan.
  • Board Certification in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (or completed fellowship with clear certification timeline)

Preferred Skills:

  • Substance Abuse Certification.
  • Experience in nonprofit or community mental health settings.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience within psychiatric services.
