Freelance Musician
Pay: $400/month
Cynthia Garris Ministries (CGM) is a family run Christian Nonprofit beginning our work in Christ. We started as a church in the basement of Pastor Cyndi before growing to a storefront. After ten years, our doors closed due to COVID, so we moved to an online based teaching style. A year later, God moved us to the Capital Region, and we began Cynthia Garris Ministries, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Now, we’re ready to begin our in-person services again, and we’re in need of a team who loves Jesus, and can be committed to CGM.
Right now, we are a team of 5, and we are in a portable setup. We set up and breakdown every service at our movie theater sanctuary. We are currently located in the Regal Cinemas @ Crossgates, theater 3. And we have rehearsals at a studio in Menands, NY. We have a 76-key keyboard available and access to CCLI.
Description:
CGM is seeking a devoted man or woman of God to join our worship team. We are looking for a keyboardist to play with our current team (acoustic guitar, lead/backing vocals). Our style of worship is Christian contemporary, so we'll need someone who feels comfortable playing that style. Musicians must be a team player, capable of working in a diverse, dynamic, and fluid environment. Musicians will work with the rest of the band members to bring in the presence of God.
Responsibilities:
-Maintain one’s relationship with God/walk up righteously
-Perform at Sunday service
-Attend rehearsals (Tuesdays at 6pm in Menands, NY)
-Communicate with sound crew and others to make sure the sound’s good
-Help with setup/breakdown of gear/equipment
- Occasional travel to remote locations may be required
- Test, clean and maintain instruments
- Come up with solutions in pre-worship and on the fly during a service
-Move, lift, push and position equipment, cables and material of various shapes, sizes, and weights
Time Commitment: 2 days/wk
As a musician, we are expecting you to come to Sunday services (between 830am-12pm), and special events outside of services (extra pay). We will always let you know ahead of time when we’re having an event so that you can properly manage your time. Outside of services and special events, rehearsals will be 1-2 a week, you are expected to attend your rehearsals.
Qualifications:
-Man/Woman of God
-Commitment to God and CGM
-Willing to work under female leaders/management
-Reliable
-Team player
-Reading music isn’t necessary but is a plus (we’re cool with playing by ear!)
-Available to learn songs without a lot of help
-Intermediate player of instrument
-Intermediate understanding of instrument
-Problem solving skills
- Capable of standing/playing for extended periods of time during service
-Ability to lift fifty pounds will be required
- Ability to present technical ideas and concepts in a user-friendly language
- Ability to communicate effectively
-Ability to adjust to different songs at random (if Pastor requests a song)
Contract Information:
The musician will be required to sign a statement of faith that aligns with what we believe at CGM.
We are looking for a long term musician (6 months or more if interested!), as we begin our mission in Christ. However, right now, we will start with three months. You'll be expected to attend weekly rehearsals and services.
