SUMMARY

A Medical Assistant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the medical assistants, ensuring they provide high-quality care and adhere to clinic protocols. This role blends administrative leadership with clinical expertise, requiring a unique skill set that includes management, clinical knowledge, and interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Typically requires a minimum of an Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting or a closely related field preferred
  • Certification: Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) is highly valued and sometimes required.
  • Experience: Prior experience as a medical assistant is essential, with at least 2-5 years in a hands-on clinical role.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leadership and Supervision: Direct and oversee medical assistants, managing their performance, scheduling, and professional development. This includes hiring, training, evaluating, and sometimes disciplining staff.
  • Clinical Oversight: Ensure that medical assistants perform clinical tasks, such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, administering medications, and conducting basic lab tests, in accordance with best practices and clinic guidelines.
  • Administrative Management: Supervise the completion of administrative tasks by medical assistants, ensuring accuracy in patient records, appointment scheduling, billing, and insurance claims.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Maintain high standards of care by enforcing adherence to healthcare regulations and clinic policies. Implement and monitor quality control measures to improve patient services and compliance.
  • Patient Care Coordination: Facilitate communication and coordination among medical assistants, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Resource Management: Manage clinic resources, including medical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and operational readiness.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Body Positions: Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
  • Body Movements: Arm and hand dexterity.
  • Body Senses: Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.
  • Strength: Ability to lift and move up to 25-pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work in an office, where the climate is controlled
  • Occasional travel between medical groups and/or hospitals when necessary. 0-25 % of the time.
  • OSHA exposure category: I
  1. Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
  2. Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.
  3. Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
