Description:

The Employment Specialist will assist individuals with disabilities in locating and maintaining competitive, integrated employment. Qualified applicants will engage in business development designed to establish business partnerships for the promotion of employment of people with disabilities. The Employment Specialist will provide direct services and supports to individuals on job sites, with the goal of assisting the employee with a disability in achieving independence in their employment. Services and supports are individualized, and may, at times, be required to work on evenings and weekends to accommodate consumers’ schedules. This position is a field position and requires an organized self-starter who enjoys making connections in their community.

The Employment Specialist typically works independently or as a member of a team. They work under limited supervision, resolving most standard to moderately complex issues independently and referring highly complex or unique issues to a high level.

Required Qualifications:

· Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities.

· Above average verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to build community partnerships.

· Proven ability to carry out job duties in a professional manner, with a positive outlook and approach.

· Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

· Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience working with individuals with disabilities in areas of community, integrated competitive employment.

· Familiarity with Monroe, Randolph, & St. Clair counties businesses and community resources.

Requirements:

Must have a flexible schedule, be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary to support the individual at his/her workplace. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent and 21 years of age or older.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Maintain a proper license at all times and ability to operate Agency vehicles. Have normal or corrective appliances that make normal hearing and eyesight, as well as clarity of speech in order to be understood. Be able to lift at least 50 pounds, have the strength and agility to climb at least two flights of stairs, and the flexibility to work in multi-facet environments.
