Princeton Day School is seeking a Building Mechanic who will work on multiple sites (within the PDS School Campus or housing within close proximity) with responsibilities including, but not limited to, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing building systems, building equipment, furniture, hardware, and similar tasks associated with buildings and housing contents and infrastructures under the direct supervision of the Building Manager.

This is a full-time 12-month non-exempt (hourly) position working Monday through Friday from 7am to 3:30pm with some weekends. During emergencies, schedule flexibility may be required.

For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:

  • Perform general building maintenance work related to all building systems and building fixtures, furniture and equipment
  • Open and close assigned Work Orders in a timely manner
  • Ensure completion of maintenance and repair jobs in accordance with quality standards
  • Schedule maintenance or repairs with minimum disruption of building services
  • Ensure Preventive Maintenance (PM) is performed and documented as required.
  • Patrol, inspect, log and maintain all building infrastructure and furniture, fixtures and equipment as required ensuring the most economical and efficient operation results are obtained
  • Responsible for assisting with fire/life/safety and security programs.
  • Responsible for building maintenance system
  • Ability to perform special projects as assigned
  • Responsible for handling confidential information in a professional manner
  • Snow removal including shoveling, plowing and operating other snow removal equipment
  • Order materials following department guidelines and follow purchase order procedures
  • Perform grounds or landscaping functions when requested or required
  • Perform custodial functions when requested or required
  • Perform Crossing Guard duties daily as assigned
  • Support special events at the school as required
  • Ability to work overtime when required
  • Attend weekly progress meeting with the Building Manager
  • Perform Mail rotation, as required/scheduled
  • Perform other Facilities duties as assigned or required

Qualifications and Personal Attributes:

  • Demonstrate an attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Experience in general maintenance and repair
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturer maintenance manuals
    • Competent in OSHA job site safety requirements
  • Ability to respond and follow through on assignments/responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments with varying deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the job

Required / Preferred Education, Licenses and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge of refrigeration, mechanical, electrical and building automated control systems. Trade School, mechanical engineering, industrial technology training very desirable
  • Valid driver's license
  • Black Seal Boiler license preferred or will need to obtain one within 6 months of hire

Required Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write or read routine reports and correspondence in English
  • Ability to speak effectively with employees, faculty and parents

Physical Demands:

The physical demands are those needed to successfully fulfill the job duties and responsibilities stated above. Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds on occasion. Must be able to walk, stoop, climb and crawl as well as stand for long periods; frequently 4 hours or more.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully an individual should have moderate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft or Google products. Ability to learn computer bases equipment log inspection forms and building automation systems.

Compensation Range: $28.00 - $30.00 an hour (this role is eligible for benefits)
