SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for fulfilling myriad administrative duties in front office, including billing support, scheduling, coding, patient communication and filing.

REQUIREMENTS

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Maintain medical charts and schedule appointments for staff.
  • Perform routine medical data clerical tasks.
  • Verify patient's health insurance coverage.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Serves and protects the medical practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Answer multi-line phone system and take appointments or direct calls to the appropriate party
  • Greet patients when they arrive at the office and provide them with any necessary paperwork or other information
  • Collect co-pays and other fees required prior to the office visit or treatment
  • Direct patients to the lab area for scheduled blood work and other testing
  • Verify insurance coverage and assist the billing department with processing claims
  • Schedule appointments and confirm appointments two days in advance
  • Assist patients with re-scheduling appointments and other scheduling issues
  • Communicate test results to patients when directed by physicians or nursing professionals
  • Inform patients of credit card declines and other billing issues
  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate preferred

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be familiar with EHR/EMR system.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience is preferred
  • Spanish bilingual is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Body Positions: Sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
  2. Body Movements: Arm and hand dexterity.
  3. Body Senses: Must have command of close and distant sight, color perception and hearing.
  4. Strength: Ability to lift and move up to 25-pounds.

Working Environment:

  1. Work in an office, where the climate is controlled
  2. Occasional travel between medical groups and/or hospitals when necessary. 0-25 % of the time.
  3. OSHA exposure category: I
  1. Category I – Position includes tasks that involve exposure to Blood borne Pathogens.
  2. Category II – Position includes tasks that do not have exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, however employment may require unplanned Category I tasks.
  3. Category III – Positions includes tasks that do not involve exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens. This position would not be required to perform Category I tasks.
