LOGAN Hope is a Christ-centered K-8 school that provides rigorous, holistic education for under-resourced students in the Logan neighborhood of Philadelphia. The idea for LOGAN Hope was originally born out of seeing the needs of a community of refugees who had escaped the genocide of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. This idea has grown into our current commitment to helping individuals and families who struggle daily with the effects of poverty, seeking to foster hope and a future through Christian discipleship and transformative academics in North Philadelphia.

LOGAN Hope is seeking a passionate individual to serve our students in the position of Art teacher for all grades (K-8). This is a part-time role, likely occurring in the afternoons from Monday-Thursday. Applicants must be committed followers of Jesus Christ and should demonstrate a commitment to the integration of faith and learning with the goal of inviting, nurturing, and empowering students to see and live their part in God’s story.  

Goals:

  • Provide students with foundational understanding of the visual arts and art history
  • Create instructional experiences that engage students with hands-on art skills in diverse areas of art theory and practice
  • Invite students to see the value of art as a reflection of God’s creative attributes in man

Qualifications: 

  • Required PA Clearances for working with children (required upon hire)
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
    • Preferred: program focus in art education 
  • Affirmation of the statement of faith (see last page)
  • Regular attendance/membership and participation at a Bible-believing church 
  • Preferred: PA or ACSI teaching certification 

Commitments:

  • Up to 10 hours of afternoon instruction per week, Monday through Thursday
  • Three afternoon classes each day, 45 minutes each, 1:00-3:30 p.m. (2.5 hours/day)
  • OPTIONAL: Additional 10 hours per week as afterschool class monitor, Mon.-Thurs.)

Responsibilities:

  • Works with school administration to plan out units and lessons for the school year 
  • Creates lesson plan for group sessions on an age-appropriate level
  • Manages classes of 8-12 students with strong classroom management skills
  • Manages, requests, and involves students in orderly management of materials 
  • Seeks guidance from school leadership to respond to any challenges or changes to plans

Pay: This is a wage-paid position starting at $22/hour.
