Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Chair to lead and advance our English language programs within a vibrant higher education environment. Duties

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of ESOL curriculum aligned with institutional goals and student needs.
  • Manage faculty recruitment, onboarding, professional development, and performance evaluations to cultivate a high-performing teaching team.
  • Oversee program budgeting, resource allocation, and grant proposal writing to secure funding for innovative projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate academic advising and support services for students enrolled in ESOL programs to promote retention and success.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with university departments, community organizations, and external partners to enhance program visibility and opportunities.
  • Conduct research on best practices in higher education teaching and language acquisition to inform program strategies.
  • Supervise administrative functions related to program accreditation, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, masters preferred.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate with minimum of one area of ESOL certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years classroom teaching experience.
  • Ability to perform the functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special education theory and practice as well as special education procedures and compliance issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to work with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Knowledge of current technologies and software applications appropriate to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Good moral character.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To serve as consultant and resource to staff, parents and students regarding all aspects of services (medical, social, and educational) available to students in ESOL programs.
  • To serve as the Local Education Agency Representative for the public school.
  • To monitor all required data for compliance with the FTE requirements for ESOL students.
  • To assist in the development of Individual Education Plans and Educational Plans for ESOL students.
  • To assist in scheduling of ESOL students.
  • Inform stakeholders of services available to meet the educational, behavioral, and mental health needs of ESOL students.
  • Assist the Principal, Director of ESOL and District ESOL Specialist in the oversight of ESOL programs.
  • Assist in the selection, development, modification or adaptation of materials and/or resources which support the learning objectives and address the varying learning styles, backgrounds and individual needs of ESOL students.
  • To perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner and with a high standard of quality in order to meet local, state, and federal timelines.
  • To attend monthly district meetings for ESOL School Based Specialists.
  • To attend appropriate conferences, seminars and workshops.

  • To plan and prepare strategies which support school improvement plans and the district mission for the education of all children.
  • To communicate with parents of ESOL students regarding the continuum of services and appropriate delivery models for ESOL-driven services.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of appropriate behavioral and classroom management systems in conjunction with school-wide positive behavioral approaches.
  • To assist school personnel in the implementation of Best Practices for Inclusive Education for ESOL students.
  • To conduct monthly meetings with school-level ESOL staff to gather and analyze performance data for ESOL students.
  • To perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Principal may assign.
