About the Role

The Regional Programs Coordinator II independently manages multiple complex, countywide programs including large-scale events and ongoing initiatives. This role leads two Annual Countywide Cleanups (Creek to Bay and Coastal Cleanup Day), the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, and various partner cleanup events throughout San Diego County — engaging residents, corporate groups, community organizations, and schools. The role requires a high level of autonomy, systems thinking, and a commitment to expanding program reach across San Diego's diverse communities.

Areas of Responsibility

Countywide Cleanup Events (35%)

  • Lead all phases of Creek to Bay and Coastal Cleanup Day — strategy, logistics, execution, and evaluation
  • Oversee 100+ cleanup sites; recruit, train, and manage 100+ volunteer site leaders
  • Support engagement of 5,000+ volunteers through registration systems and event communications
  • Continuously improve program systems, materials, and processes for scale and impact

Program Management — Cigarette Litter Prevention & Volunteer Systems (25%)

  • Lead and expand the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program, including partnerships and volunteer engagement
  • Manage inventory and data tracking for 100+ receptacles and related materials
  • Maintain volunteer data through platforms such as Samaritan and affiliate portals

Partnership Development & Community Engagement (20%)

  • Build and leverage partnerships with community groups, local organizations, and elected officials
  • Represent the organization externally; collaborate with Marketing on digital and print outreach
  • Foster long-term volunteer and community relationships

Program Operations & Resource Management (10%)

  • Oversee program budgets, supply inventory, and staff/volunteer oversight at events
  • Ensure operational readiness and consistency across programs

Administrative & Reporting (10%)

  • Track metrics and prepare grant and contract reports on deadline
  • Support the Development team with program data; assist with department-wide planning and contracts

Requirements

  • 3+ years managing large-scale programs, events, or community relationships independently
  • Availability for at least two Saturday events/month; must support two annual countywide cleanups (third Saturday of April and September)
  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Reliable transportation; regular travel throughout San Diego County required
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain on feet for extended periods at events
  • Background check required
  • CRM/volunteer management platform experience preferred

Bilingual Differential: Candidates bilingual in English and Spanish may be eligible for a pay differential. Proficiency assessment required.
