Internship Opportunity: Occupational Therapy Support – Special Needs Club of Hampton Roads
The Special Needs Club of Hampton Roads is seeking a dedicated and compassionate intern with an interest in occupational therapy to support individuals with diverse developmental and physical needs. This internship offers hands-on experience in a community-based setting, working alongside professionals to enhance participants’ daily living skills, independence, and overall quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in implementing occupational therapy-informed activities that promote fine motor skills, sensory integration, and functional independence
Support members during structured programs, social activities, and skill-building sessions
Collaborate with staff to adapt activities based on individual needs and abilities
Observe and document participant progress and engagement
Help create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment
Qualifications:
Current student or recent graduate in occupational therapy, psychology, special education, or a related field
Strong interest in working with individuals with special needs
Patience, empathy, and effective communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
Learning Outcomes:
Gain practical exposure to occupational therapy principles in a real-world setting
Develop interpersonal and caregiving skills
Build experience for future careers in healthcare, therapy, or education
Details:
Location: Local Virginia Beach Public Schools
Schedule: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, starting in September (flexibility may be available)
Compensation: This is an unpaid internship
