POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Lifeguard you are responsible, have a positive attitude, and have a knack for exceptional customer service. Under general supervision, lifeguards will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons within the pool area(s) by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards at the company must always be alert, reliable, and have a strong work ethic.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Monitor swimming areas to prevent accidents and ensure patron safety.
  • Maintain a safe swimming environment by enforcing all rules and regulations of the pool area.
  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations, including administering first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Perform water rescues using appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain and complete required training and applicable certifications such as, but not limited to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Lifeguarding, AED; etc.
  • Execute emergency action plans (EAP) when required.
  • Conduct inspections of pool facilities and equipment to identify and report safety concerns.
  • Complete required documentation for incidents, rescues, chemical checks, and inspections.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the facility and pool deck area. Assist in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assist with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and add chemicals to pool water as directed.
  • Provide friendly and respectful customer service to patrons and guests.
  • Direct swimmers in and out of the water during inclement weather or hazardous conditions.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions or other concerns to your supervisor.
  • Wear the required and approved uniform specific to your assigned facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on facility needs.

 

SAFETY AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must be able to continuously observe and scan a pool area for extended periods without distraction.
  • Must be able to lift or assist in lifting individuals in distress, up to 85 pounds, using appropriate rescue techniques and equipment.
  • Must be able to swim, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to emergencies, including running short distances and performing water rescues.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments with exposure to sun, heat, rain, or other weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must meet minimum age requirements for lifeguards as defined by applicable federal, state, and local regulations (typically age 15 or 16).
  • Possess and maintain current certifications:
    • Lifeguarding (American Red Cross or equivalent)
    • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
      First Aid
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prior customer service or pool experience preferred but not required.

 

SCHEDULE  REQUIREMENTS

  • Lifeguards require flexible schedules and may work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and may need to work overtime depending on business needs.
  • Ability to work during certain holidays, particularly during peak summer months, is critical. Lifeguards must be available on summer holiday days and corresponding weekends; specifically Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, and Labor Day.
