Position Overview
The Assistant Director of Student Ministries supports the Director of Student Ministries in planning, coordinating, and executing programs for ASCEND and the overall Student Ministries at Bethany United Methodist Church. This role is vital in fostering spiritual growth and engagement among youth and young adults.

General Responsibilities
Assist in planning and implementing all Student Ministry programs and ASCEND activities.
Support the Director of Student Ministries in carrying out the vision and mission of the church’s youth programs.
Specific Responsibilities
Collaboration & Leadership

Work collaboratively with the Director of Student Ministries and church staff.
Support the overall ministry of the church under the leadership of the Senior Pastor.
Coordinate with all professional staff to ensure youth and young adult ministries align with the church’s mission.
Program Development & Support

Assist in coordinating teachers and curriculum for youth Sunday School.
Recruit, train, and support volunteers serving as acolytes and crucifers, and manage their schedules.
Help plan and lead youth-led worship services.
Assist in organizing retreats, trips, and special youth events.
Plan and lead “Up Front” games during weekly ASCEND gatherings.
Lead a weekly small group for high school students outside Sunday ASCEND meetings.
Create and manage presentations for ASCEND using ProPresenter.
Provide guidance and support to youth, including individual counseling under the Director’s supervision.
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain regular office hours as agreed upon with the Director of Student Ministries.
Be present during key ministry times, including:
Sunday mornings (worship and Sunday School)
Sunday evenings (ASCEND: 6:00 PM – 8:15 PM)
Tuesday office hours
Wednesday evenings (BNOW)
Additional days as needed
Attend church and youth council meetings to stay informed on ministry needs and developments.
Participate in retreats and youth-related events as required.
Follow time-off policies as outlined in the church’s Employee Handbook.
Additional Expectations
Actively participate in the life and ministry of the church.
Be available to take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Ministries.
