Bluestem Habitat Restoration is seeking a Seasonal, part-time position
(30 hours a week or less) or full-time position (30 hours or more a week). Hours
are accommodating/flexible for academic and personal schedules. Must have
reliable transportation and travel to jobsites in the metro or to the shop location in
Raytown. This role is for installation of new native gardens, maintaining gardens, and the establishment of both reconstruction/restoration projects. This position is recommended for those who are/have studied in an environmental related field. Those who love to be outdoors and learn about the natural world.
Salary Range & Work Period- Seasonal part-time position (30 hours a week or less) or Seasonal full-time position (30 hours or more)
- $17 - $19 an hour based on experience for part-time
- $20 - $22 an hour based on experience for full-time
- Approximately April 20th through October 15th
Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorks with and under the owner of Bluestem Habitat Restoration. Not all duties and responsibilities are listed here, as there are many tasks involved for this position. These are the essential ones:
- Install native species ranging from plug size to several gallon sized trees
- Weeding, mulching, watering, and cleaning garden beds
- Utilize weed eater, backpack blower, and various tools to perform tasks
- Remove non-native and invasive species using mechanical and or hand tools
- Identify and treat invasive species with herbicide
- Track hours and report them daily
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma
- Reliable transportation
Physical and Operational RequirementsThe following set of physical and operational skills is necessary for this position :
- Native plant and invasive plant identification
- Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting (often 50+ lbs), and walking over uneven terrain
- Operate various landscape tools/equipment
- Work outside in extreme hot or cold temperatures
- Track hours accurately
Preferred but not required:
- Experience or education relating to conservation, environmental science, natural resources, etc
- Landscaping experience
Ability RequirementsAbility to:
- Work independently for up to a few hours at a time
- Work outside for extended periods of time
- Wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Problem solving and addressing issues effectively
- Be respectful to clients and communicate effectively
- Take responsibility for your work and the environment
