Summer Camp Counselor
General Duties-
- Under the supervision of the Site Director, each Counselor is responsible for the daily supervision and safety of a specific group of students.
- Run specific and on-going activities of the program.
- Arrive at the site at least ten minutes before the children arrive each day.
Program Activities-
- Contribute to the planning and carry out the daily activities for a specific group of children in the program. (Literacy, STEM and Performing Arts)
- Prepare materials required to carry out the daily activities planned.
- Escort the group to and from all activities areas and trips.
- Teach and supervise organized games, and Team sports.
- Manage the use and collection of the games and materials used in the activity.
- Assist and support the activities provided by resource people who will provide special programs.
Staff and Program Issues-
- It is the duty of every member of the staff to insure the program is safe and operating within the standards outlined by the NYC Department of Health.
- Participate in staff training activities and program safety orientation.
- Issue a report to his/her supervisor when there are issues that require resolution.
- If asked, convey information regarding schedule changes notice to the participants.
- Keep daily attendance and sign out at dismissal.
- Report any issue or illness to the Supervisor.
Qualifications for Youth Counselor:
- At least, 18 years of age.
- Applicate should be attending high school, GED program or college, if they have not yet graduated.
- Have at least six (6) months of experience in supervision of children in a facility such as a School Age Program or Daycare or worked as an SYEP.
-Be available for work shifts weekdays between 8am and 6pm, with 1 weekend event in July and August required.

We provide a broad range of youth development and family support services, including after-school programs for students in grades K-12, summer camp, a nightly teen center, and support for older youth and adults. As a staple in the community, NIDC works with tenants, landlords, precincts, schools, health centers, merchants, and elected officials to address a wide variety of issues facing the Bronx, including economic development and revitalization.
