Part Time

Goals: To fulfil the participant's needs for assistance in their activities of daily living, daily therapeutic and social activities, and to do so in a manner that maintains the participants' safety and dignity

Education/Experience: High school diploma with a minimum of 1 year of experience working in a similar role. Good communication and organizational skills. The activity and personal care assistant must demonstrate a positive, professional appearance and attitude, and be sensitive to our participants' needs and feelings.

Responsibilities:

Activities: 

  • Assist with floor activities, including therapeutic and activities of daily living, among personal care assistants.
  • Work with other PCA staff to take on roles implementing the scheduled activities

Personal care

  •  Follow the leadership of the Nurse and Health Care Coordinator and work as a team with other PCA staff members
  • Help to assist participants with their daily personal care needs, such as toileting, feeding, walking, etc. Also, be prepared to assist as needed with personal care needs.

Dietary

  • Assist other staff members in serving lunch and snacks, and feeding participants as needed. Notify nurse of difficulty chewing, swallowing, and or drinking. 
  • Follow dietary orders as posted and work per the direction of the Health Care Coordinator and Nurse

Communication

  • Keep regular communication with other staff members to meet the program’s needs.
  • Develop a cordial relationship with participants, their families, social workers, and UAC staff members.
  • Speak to and treat the participants in a manner that shows compassion and respect for their dignity and well-being. Get to know their individual needs.

Sanitation:

  • Assist staff in sanitising tables and chairs at the end of each day.

Salary/Hourly rate range: $12 to $18 / hour
