Cabin Counselor/Activity Instructor - Seasonal - Full Time - Internship Available
Camp Nicolet for Girls is a traditional overnight summer camp in Eagle River Wisconsin. Family-owned and operated for over 80 years, our goal is to provide a safe, fun, educational summer experience for young women ages 7-17, and Staff ages 18+. Cabin Counselors & Activity Instructors maintain a fun, safe, and supportive environment in camper cabins, as well as teach or facilitate core instructional and elective activities for campers. The typical contract length is nine weeks, starting in early June, working six days a week.
A Counselor & Activity Instructor has the following responsibilities:
• Live in a cabin with up to 12 campers, between ages 7-17, be a primary caregiver for campers by providing 24-hour supervision, including meal times, rest hours and evening programs
• Foster a positive, inclusive and respectful cabin environment including mentoring, listening, and caring for others. Provide guidance, care and support to campers with homesickness, interpersonal conflicts, and personal growth moments. Ensure and maintain an emotionally & physically safe cabin living environment
• Be a role model for campers by demonstrating a positive attitude, kindness, good judgment, punctuality and teamwork; including daily participation in camp programs, planning, teaching, and carrying out activities.
• Work with a co-counselor and cabin group to keep cabins clean & organized, responsible for maintaining a clean cabin, including the bathroom. Clean cabins in between sessions and after camp concludes. Participate in all-camp cleaning initiatives before, during and after camp.
• Supervise campers at all times - in cabins, in the Dining Hall, and around camp generally
• Supervise & instruct campers in activity areas, working toward personal & skill development
• Teach three to four hours of core instructional activities daily, six days per week
• Teach five to seven periods of Elective activities, across five days per week
• Participate in a special Staff Committee (Weekend/Rainy Day, Dining Hall, Campfire, Vespers)
• Actively participate in other program areas as assigned (Campfire, Cookouts, Special Events)
• Participate in evening Patrol as scheduled; up to 3 times per summer - 9:45pm to 11:45pm.
• Know, follow, & uphold all Camp Nicolet safety and emergency procedures
• Maintain awareness of camper personal health needs. Provide care, advice & resources if needed.
Core Instructional Activities Include (Typically assigned 2-3 activities to instruct/facilitate):
• Horseback Riding • Water Skiing • Wakeboarding
• Swimming • Smallcraft (includes Sailing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Stand-Up-Paddling, Windsurfing)
• Court Sports (includes Tennis & Pickleball) • Land Sports (of many kinds such as soccer, kickball, lacrosse, archery, volleyball, field games)
• Arts & Crafts • Musical Theatre • Wilderness Tripping
Elective Activities Include (but are not limited to):
• Archery • Trampball (like volleyball on trampolines)
• Trail Rides • Stable Management & Horse Care
• Mountain Biking • Lacrosse
• Set / Prop Design (for theatre) • Drama Games & Improv
