Position Summary

Summer Support Staff play an essential role in the daily operation of Camp Okoboji. These team members help ensure that campers, guests, and staff experience a safe, clean, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment. Support Staff assist in multiple operational areas of camp including housekeeping, food service, laundry, retail, and waterfront support.

This role requires flexibility, teamwork, a positive attitude, and a willingness to serve wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Care & Housekeeping

  • Clean cabins, bathrooms, and shared facilities between camp sessions and as needed throughout the week.
  • Assist with routine maintenance and report repair needs to camp leadership.
  • Help maintain a clean, welcoming environment across the camp property.

Dining Hall Operations

  • Assist with dining hall setup before meals
  • Serve meals to campers and guests in a friendly and hospitable manner.
  • Clean tables, dishes, and food service areas after meals.
  • Help maintain sanitation standards in food service areas.

Laundry

  • Wash, dry, fold, and distribute laundry such as towels and linens, as assigned.
  • Maintain organization in the laundry area.

Camp Store

  • Staff the camp store during scheduled hours.
  • Assist campers and guests with purchases.
  • Handle basic cash or point-of-sale transactions responsibly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized retail space.

Waterfront Support

  • Assist with supervision and organization of waterfront activities.
  • Help maintain equipment and keep waterfront areas clean and safe.

Lifeguarding (if certified)

  • Serve as a lifeguard during scheduled swim times.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed in all waterfront activities.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies according to training and camp policy.

Emergency Procedure

  • Be familiar with and follow all camp safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in staff training and emergency drills.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment for campers, guests, and staff.

Expectations

  • Demonstrate a Christ-like attitude of service, patience, and encouragement.
  • Work cooperatively with other camp staff and leadership.
  • Be dependable, punctual, and flexible as daily needs change.
  • Represent Camp Okoboji in a positive and professional manner.

Qualifications

  • At least High school age (16 years or older)
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to perform a variety of tasks throughout the day.
  • Lifeguard certification preferred for waterfront roles (training may be available).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to be active throughout the day, including standing, walking, cleaning, and working outdoors.
