Discovery Bay Children’s Center is looking for a Lead Summer Camp Teacher who loves spending their days exploring, creating, and learning alongside children.

Our program is small by design. We are a small, passionate team of educators who believe childhood should be full of curiosity, collaboration, and joyful discovery. With a 7:1 child-to-teacher ratio, we are able to build strong relationships with children and create experiences that truly respond to their interests.

At Discovery Bay, we approach our work through an anti-bias lens. We believe children are thoughtful observers of the world, and we support them in developing empathy and respect for differences. Our educators help create a space where all children and families feel seen, valued, and reflected in our classroom community.

Our summer days might include bird watching, low tide exploration, art in the park, baking cookies together, or hopping on the city bus for a field trip to a nearby park, museum, or library. We love when teachers bring their own passions and expertise to the mix and help expand what our days can become.

Pay: $25–$30 per hour depending on experience

What You’ll Do

  • Plan and lead engaging activities inspired by children’s interests
  • Support children’s play, creativity, and collaboration
  • Supervise and care for children in a safe, nurturing environment
  • Take children on local field trips using public transportation
  • Work closely with a small, supportive teaching team
  • Help create the kind of summer memories children talk about for years

Who You Are
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with children
  • Creative, curious, and flexible
  • Comfortable exploring the city with a small group of kids
  • Experience working with school-age children in camps, afterschool, or early learning programs
  • Formal education or training in education, child development, or pedagogy is preferred but not required
  • Excited to be part of a thoughtful, collaborative team

Looking Ahead

For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to continue with Discovery Bay during the school year as part of our afterschool program.

If you believe learning happens through curiosity, relationships, and shared experiences—and you want to spend your summer helping children explore the world—we would love to hear from you.
