JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Day Camp Counselor  
Department: Recreation                                                    Reports To: Day Camp Director   
Classification: Hourly                                             Position Type: Seasonal, Part-time 
Job Description Summary: 
Under the supervision of the Day Camp Supervisor, the Day Camp Counselor’s primary responsibility is to lead and participate in all daily activities with the youth campers assigned you.  You are responsible for providing and ensuring each child’s safety and constant supervision.  Cooperates with other staff members to provide campers with an educational and enjoyable summer experience. Wear the proper issued uniform each day. Provide the membership the highest quality and efficient operation of the Day Camp while assuming a harmonious community atmosphere. 
Essential Functions of the Job:
Directly responsible to Camp Supervisor. Insure each child’s safety through constant supervision during all camp activities. Actively participate with children and lead the group in all camp activities.  CIT’s assigned to you are not responsible for leading activities.  They are assigned to assist you in your activities. Attend all scheduled meetings and Staff Development Programs. Carry out and attend all duties assigned and instructions given. Watch over a group of children throughout each day. Provide guidance and instruction during all camp activities. Aid in maintaining physical appearance of the facility (building and surrounding grounds.)  Will perform custodial work, cleaning bathrooms (including toilets, sinks, floors, etc.) storage areas and litter pick-up around the grounds. Punch in and out for each day worked.

The above is representative of the responsibilities of this position.  Other duties will be assigned as deemed appropriate by the Camp Supervisor, Day Camp Director and Director of Recreation.

This is an on-site position that requires your presence at the camp.

Competencies: 
Candidate must possess a positive attitude, oral and verbal communication skills, organization, the ability to multitask in a fast pace environment, and must be willing to work as a team with other staff members.

Work Environment: 
Day Camp setting, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, etc. 
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift at least 30lbs and must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time.

Certifications or Licenses:
All Hemlock Farms summer Day Camp employees must hold current certifications in First Aid and CPR.
PA ACT 153 Clearances: 
-    Criminal History Record from the PA State Police System
-    Child Abuse Clearance obtained through the Department of Public Welfare
-    FBI Fingerprint screening
Education and Experience:
Experience working with children or in a camp setting is a plus.
