OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a compassionate and innovative Activities Director/Recreation Therapist to join our assisted living team. This role involves designing and implementing therapeutic recreational activities tailored to enhance the physical, emotional, and social well-being of a diverse resident population. The ideal candidate will have experience working with seniors with diverse functional levels and diagnoses. A strong background in resident assessment, and a variety of therapeutic modalities such as art, music, dance, and physical exercise is essential. The Recreation Therapist will collaborate closely with other staff to develop individualized plans that improve quality of life, and support holistic health.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement comprehensive recreational therapy programs utilizing modalities such as music therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, yoga, swimming, and group therapy sessions.
Conduct resident assessments to determine individual needs, preferences, and goals for recreational activities.
Facilitate therapeutic activities tailored to specific populations including seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's care, individuals in hospice and seniors with limited mobility.
Collaborate with other team members to meet the needs of residents
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations by maintaining confidentiality of medical records and documentation.
Ensure collaboration with families and community members to enhance the recreational experience
Educate patients and families about therapeutic benefits of recreational activities and promote engagement in community-based programs when appropriate.
Maintain a safe environment during all activities by adhering to safety protocols related to medical terminology, diagnostic evaluation procedures, and activity-specific safety measures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy or a related field; advanced certifications preferred.
Experience working with diverse populations including geriatrics (dementia care), and individuals with disabilities
Proficiency in various therapeutic modalities such as art therapy, music therapy (including dancing), behavioral therapy techniques, yoga, swimming instruction, and gardening.
Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation standards, patient assessment methods, and medical records management.
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations ensuring confidentiality of protected health information.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating excellent communication skills.
Experience working in assisted living facilities or hospice care is highly desirable;
