Role Description

This is a contract role for a Junior Wrangler, Wrangler, or Head Wrangler position with the Corral (Horse Program) team at Wente Scout Reservation. The Wrangler will assist with the care and management of horses, assist in leading equestrian activities, provide training to participants, and perform general maintenance of the stables and equipment. The role requires ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants while maintaining high animal welfare standards. This is an on-site role located in Willits, CA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Applicants need to be 16 or 17 for consideration for a Junior Wrangler position by the start date, 06/14/2026.
• Applicants need to be 18 or older for consideration for a Wrangler position or the Head Wrangler position by the start date, 06/14/2026.
• Knowledge and experience in Horse Care and Equestrian programs.
• Communication and instructional skills to effectively engage with team members and participants.
• Ability to work outdoors in a physically active environment.
• First aid certification and horse safety training, while not required, are plusses.
• Previous outdoor leadership or education experience, while not required, is a plus.
• Current or previous membership in Scouting America, while not required, is a plus.

Additional Information

• This is live-on summer position, in which you are provided housing and food for the duration of your contract.
• Wente hosts a herd of approximately 20 horses, which we care for and work with in offering trail rides, outposts, and other programming.
