BHM Kids Paddle Camp Counselor


We are Black Hall Marina and Paddlesports, CT’s premier paddle-sport destination, located on the pristine,
protected waters of the Great Island National Estuary in Old Lyme, CT.  We are currently
looking for counselors for our 2026 BHM Kids Paddle Camp (June – August 2025).
Our BHM Kids Paddle Camp introduces kids to kayaking and paddle boarding with an emphasis
on fun, learning and safety.  We provide the kids a week of fun on water activities that they will
never forget – exploring the natural wonders, meeting new friends and learning from our highly
trained staff on our calm, protected waterways.  The kids will be out on the water, being active,
fit and disconnecting from their devices to experience active, real life adventures. We run 2 sessions per day am/pm- each session is 3.5 hours - Camp runs for 9 weeks, end of june through mid-august and for those 9 weeks this is a full-time position
Requirements / Skills:

  • Optimistic and high energy in order to provide the participants an AMAZING and exciting week of summer FUN!
  • Responsible and mature / able to make conversation with parents at start of camp session
    • Physically Fit 
    o Ability to assist with getting equipment into and out of the water for the kids as well as
    cleaning at the end of the week.   Need to be able to assist with lifting up to 50 lbs
    o Strong swimmer – our counselors will be physically on the water with the kids camp on a daily
    basis
    o Must be physically able to assist campers in an emergency situation and need to possess
    strength and endurance for all on water activities
    o Some physical requirements of a camp counselor include; bending, stooping and stretching
    • Require good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate waterfront equipment
    and waterfront activities, as well as normal range of hearing and eyesight
    • Ability to operate and function with daily exposure to sun, heat and varying water conditions
    Responsibilities
    • Assist in the direction, supervision and organization of campers, daily plan and activities
    throughout the week in order to meet the intended program experience
    • Assure campers are properly supervised at all times
    • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication,
    respect for safety, involvement and having FUN!
    • Work as a member of the BHM team of counselors who provide guidance and support of all
    campers
    • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines
    • Assist in other program areas such as nature exploration, eco-awareness, safety and on and
    off water activities
    • Conduct a regular check of equipment for safety, cleanliness and repair
    • Submit orders for supplies and equipment needs to BHM management
    • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures
    • Set good examples for all campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and
    practices
  • Life guard / water safety certifications good to have but NOT mandatory

  • Compensation $18-$22 per hour dependent on experience
