Clipper Day Camp Group Leader

 

Rate of Pay: Starting at $22-$26.5/hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, between the hours of 7:30am -5:30 pm, shifts vary, up to 40 hours/week

Dates of employment: June 19-August 14, 2026

Location: William H Rowe School or Yarmouth Elementary School

 

Responsible for assisting the Clipper Day Camp Director in the coordination and management of the Clipper Day Camp program for campers entering Kindergarten through fifth grade.  The Group Leader would oversee approximately 50 campers, 6 counselors and 5 volunteer staff.  Necessary competencies required are attention to detail, ability to handle complex projects and juggle multiple priorities while working with a great deal of independence and initiative.  Successful candidates should possess a college degree in a recreation/education or related field and have summer day camp supervision and programming experience.

 

Nature of Work

 

  • Responsible for assisting the Clipper Day Camp Director in the coordination and management of the Clipper Day Camp program for grades K-1 or 2-5.  The Group Leader would oversee approximately 50 campers, 4-6 paid staff and 4-6 volunteer staff.  Necessary competencies required are attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple priorities while working with a great deal of independence and initiative. 

 

Employment Period

 

  • Must be available to work all the dates of the summer Clipper Day Camp, schedule to be provided
  • Must be available to work between the times of 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Shift times vary)
  • This is a seasonal position and does not accrue earned paid leave.

 

Desirable Training and Experience

 

  • Prior experience with school age children. 
  • 2-3 years experience as a Lead Camp Counselor preferred
  • 1 year Leadership Experience preferred (can include school-related leadership experience such as Class President, club leader, etc)

 

Requirements of Work

 

  • Oversee up to 6 counselors, up to six volunteers and up to approximately 50 campers.
  • Ability to independently lead a group of campers and staff on numerous field trips. 
  • Plan each week’s block schedules, gather necessary supplies, and assign staff as needed. 
  • Respond to parental concerns as they arise.
  • Facilitate, monitor and insure a positive, safe, and fun camp experience for participants.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Actively participate and supervise participants, staff and volunteers in all activities and field trips.
  • Provide positive, age-appropriate and approved discipline techniques when needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties, including (but not limited to): setup, cleanup, monitor, early/late care supervision, etc.
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with children and their parents. 
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and effectively carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other duties and related work as required.
