Assistant Teacher (Elementary)
The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the Head Teacher in the planning and execution of an age-appropriate summer curriculum for their classroom of 12 students. Together, they carry out the Horizons CTSN mission to build brighter futures for under-resourced Norwalk students by providing academic and enrichment opportunities, cultivating community, and inspiring dreams.
The Assistant Teacher actively participates with their class in all enrichment activities including swimming, afternoon specials (art, music, soccer, etc.) and Friday field trips. He/she is supervised by the Head Teacher and the Horizons CTSN Academic Director.
This is a temporary, seasonal position which begins on Monday, June 22nd, 2026, and concludes on Friday, July 31st, 2026. HCTSN has no obligation to offer continued employment after July 31st, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head Teacher in the planning and execution of an age-appropriate summer curriculum
- Tracking student attendance
- Count heads when the group arrives and leaves an activity
- Be present and involved at breakfast and lunch
- Keep children engaged in positive activities
- Responsible for the classroom backpack every time the class leaves the designated classroom and on every field trip and letting the Operations Director know of any supplies that may have to be replenished.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate possess:
· Bachelor’s Degree in education field
· Passion for education equity and the Horizons CTSN mission
· Experience working with underserved students and families
· Ability to forge strong student relationships in a short period of time
· Creativity and experience in developing project-based themes that expose students to content that they may not experience during the regular school year
· Strong interpersonal skills, team player
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $883.00 per week
