Summary of Position:

This position provides assistance in meeting the objectives of the Activities unit, particularly in implementing evening activities when on-duty.  As a position scheduled at off-peak staffing hours, the position will also routinely help with direct resident care, cleaning up after meals, and answering the telephone.  The position requires the ability to relate sensitively to individuals of varying abilities, many of whom have a mental or physical disability.

 

Principal Duties:

  1. Implement activities listed on the activities calendar, with the goal of developing 1-2 monthly resident activities of your own design.
  2. Follow all activity and resident support procedures when leading activities.
  3. Assist with meal clean-up, providing resident care, and any other assigned tasks. 
  4. Answer telephones, lock doors to secure the building and assist with resident care tasks as needed when working an evening shift. 
  5. Properly document all significant resident care and interaction.
  6. Provide care in a manner that respects residents’ dignity and use mental health recovery principles to encourage residents to develop their strengths and talents and set personal goals.
  7. Assist in development of socialization skills, and when necessary, provide mediation and conflict resolution.
  8. Report all unusual resident behavior or incidents.  Complete and submit Incident Reports as needed.
  9. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.
  10. Maintain healthy rapport with other staff and volunteers.

Schedule:

This position has the following part-time schedule of approximately 22 hours per week:

  1. Weekly Schedule: Three weekdays and every other weekend: 3:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
  2. Holidays: Assigned to 1 of 3 Holiday Teams.  More details from Supervisor.

Qualifications

Professional Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Experience in providing home care, long-term care, and/or experience in a similar Human Service agency is preferred.
  3. This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
  4. Driving a vehicle for business purposes is necessary for this position.  That requires that he/she have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR upon hire, and must at all times meet the guidelines in the Personnel Manual for an acceptable driving record.

 

Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements:

  1. Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 5.5 hours, lifting up to 10-40 lbs. frequently, assisting in lifting 50-100lbs as needed, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching above and below.
  2. Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.
  3. Emotional: Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential.  He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.
  4. Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.
