Public Forum Debate Coach

Part-time position with potential to transition to full-time based on performance and program growth
 

About NAVI Debate

NAVI Debate is a nationally competitive debate program based in New York/New Jersey. We compete at 15–20 national and regional tournaments annually, including prestigious events at Harvard, Stanford, Georgetown, and Kentucky. Our students range from elementary through high school, and we're committed to developing academically strong, confident communicators and strategic thinkers.
 

Position Overview

• Type: Part-time / Contract
• Location: Onsite, Closter NJ
• Start Date: In 1-2 months
   

Responsibilities

• Coach students in Public Forum (PF) debate formats, strategies, and argumentation
• Assist students in case construction, rebuttal frameworks, evidence comparison, and crossfire techniques
• Provide constructive feedback through drills, speeches, and practice rounds
• Review tournament ballots and help students implement improvements
• Optional: Attend weekend tournaments (in-person or online) and provide coaching support
• Collaborate with other NAVI coaches and directors on curriculum and team development
   

Preferred Qualification

3+ years of experience in PF debate (as competitor or coach)

2+ years of coaching experience in debate/english/writing/speaking
 

Compensation

• Competitive hourly rate: $30–$65/hour based on experience
• Summer camp coaching opportunities available

Time Commitment 

• 1–5 hours per week
• Flexible schedule coordinated with team calendar and your availability
