WHO WE ARE
KC Harvey Environmental is a growing environmental consulting and field services firm based in Bozeman, Montana, with regional operations in Wyoming, North Dakota, and throughout the Rocky Mountains and Northern Great Plains. We support industries with reclamation, restoration, and remediation needs by combining consulting, engineering, and field services. Our work spans powerlines, pipelines, mines, wind farms, and oil and gas fields. We pursue evidence-based, solution-focused projects across the western United States.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are hiring eight seasonal Reclamation Monitoring Field Technicians for summer 2025, based in Rawlins, Wyoming. Positions run full-time from May through August, with possible extension. Technicians will gain hands-on experience in vegetation identification, ecological monitoring, and field data collection while learning reclamation practices in high desert and sagebrush steppe ecosystems.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Technicians collect data to assess reclamation progress and site conditions on lands disturbed by oil and gas development. Work is fast-paced and physically demanding, with teams completing monitoring and stormwater inspections at 20–30 sites per day.

A typical schedule is Monday–Friday, 8–12 hours/day including travel to remote sites. Tasks include:

Identifying plant species in reclaimed and reference areas

Estimating vegetation cover using visual assessments and point-intercept transects

Photographing and mapping bare ground, erosion areas, and other features

Identifying invasive or noxious weeds

Conducting stormwater inspections and documenting erosion risks, BMP effectiveness, and maintenance needs

Work involves extensive driving on rough roads and walking up to five miles per day in hot, cold, windy, or wet conditions. Applicants should be comfortable with vegetation ID, ecological monitoring protocols, GPS navigation, and digital data collection. Training will be provided.

Duties Include:
· Conduct reclamation monitoring and stormwater inspections following protocols
· Complete vegetation assessments, inspections, and forms on a tablet
· Maintain accurate project logs
· Navigate and map features using ArcGIS Field Maps
· Assist with other tasks as needed (weed control, stormwater maintenance, soil sampling, etc.)

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Applicants must have:
• At least two years of undergraduate coursework in a natural resource field (environmental science, biology, botany, rangeland management, ecology, etc.)
• Coursework or field experience in western plant identification, including grasses
• Familiarity with major plant families in high desert and sagebrush steppe ecosystems
• Strong safety commitment and teamwork skills
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
• Ability to work in adverse weather
• Experience following field protocols and collecting data electronically
• Experience driving 4WD trucks on rough roads; valid driver’s license and clean record

WHAT YOU’LL GET
This is a seasonal hourly position starting at $20/hour depending on experience, with overtime potential and provided fully furnished lodging. Depending on schedule and hours, project-based full-time employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits (most effective the first of the month after 60 days; employer-paid life and disability start on hire).

This role offers hands-on field experience in the high desert of south-central Wyoming and other project areas.
