About Courtney’s House

Courtney’s House provides a safe, structured, and trauma-informed residential home for DC foster care youth and youth with extreme mental health needs, ages 14–20. We are committed to culturally competent, youth-centered support that promotes safety, healing, and long-term stability.

We are currently hiring Daytime, Overnight, and Holiday Residential Housing Aides for positions that last a month or longer.

Position Summary

The Residential Housing Aide supports the daily functioning of the home, including meal preparation, maintaining a clean and safe environment, supporting residents with routines and chores, and de-escalating problems as they arise.

Ideal candidates are compassionate, dependable, trauma-informed, and skilled at working with youth with complex needs.

Shifts & Schedule

Positions are available on an hourly, monthly, or long-term basis (a month or more).

All shifts are 12 hours:

  • Daytime: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Overnight: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Holiday shifts available and may be required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with foster care youth, youth with mental health or behavioral challenges, or crisis-involved youth
  • Ability to de-escalate conflicts and remain calm in high-stress or emotionally charged situations
  • Basic understanding of trauma-informed care and youth-centered support
  • Cooking skills sufficient to prepare meals for a household
  • Comfortable with cleaning, restocking supplies, and laundry (must be able to lift 30 lbs)
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and communicate clearly with staff
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Duties & ResponsibilitiesResidential Support & Supervision

  • Ensure residents’ safety and well-being at all times
  • Provide trauma-informed engagement and supportive check-ins
  • Monitor and document completion of chores
  • Support residents in keeping shared spaces clean and organized
  • De-escalate conflicts or problems using trauma-informed strategies
  • Report safety, behavioral, or mental health concerns to appropriate staff

Meal Preparation & Food Program

  • Assist youth in preparing meals

 

Residential House Operations

  • Ensure residents are completing assigned chores
  • Assist youth with laundry, restocking supplies, and general housekeeping
  • Track and log all visitors

Resident Engagement & Activities

  • Support daily routines and structured activities

Overnight Shift Responsibilities (if applicable)

  • Monitor and document overnight safety, behavior, and activity
  • Support residents who need assistance during the night
  • Ensure the home is prepared for morning routines
  • Communicate updates to incoming morning staff

Compensation

  • $20–$24/hour, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Additional pay may be available for holiday shifts
