Position Summary
The Machining Operator (Cross-Training Track) is an entry-level position designed to prepare employees for key roles within the Machining and Production departments. The employee will undergo a structured 2-week training program to learn foundational machining, safety, and production skills. Upon successful completion, the individual may be assigned to one of several positions based on skill assessment, production needs, and performance during training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
During Training:
- Attend all required safety orientations and machine operation training sessions.
- Assist with basic machine operation under supervision.
- Learn to read work instructions, quality guidelines, and simple drawings.
- Participate in hands-on practice in machining, inspection, and assembly tasks.
- Rotate through multiple stations to gain exposure to each possible placement role.
After Placement (Duties will depend on assigned role):
1. Machining Support Technician
- Assist machinists with material loading/unloading, tool changes, and machine prep.
- Perform basic measurements and part checks.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization around machines.
2. Post-Process Equipment Management
- Operate post-process equipment such as deburring, cleaning, surface finishing, or drying units.
- Track completed parts and maintain process logs.
- Ensure machines operate safely and report abnormalities.
3. Assembly Operator
- Assemble components according to diagrams, torque specs, and work instructions.
- Perform simple hand-tool operations and functional checks.
4. In-Line Operator
- Monitor production line flow and support continuous part movement.
- Conduct visual checks and remove defective items.
- Keep materials stocked and maintain pace with line operations.
5. Finished Product Inspector
- Inspect machined or assembled products for defects, dimensions, and appearance.
- Use gauges and measurement tools to verify finished goods.
- Document inspection results and report quality issues.
6. Packager
- Package finished products following customer specifications and internal guidelines.
- Label, box, and prepare items for shipment.
- Ensure packaging materials are stocked and used correctly.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: No experience required; manufacturing experience is a plus.
Skills:
- Ability to follow instructions and learn technical tasks
- Basic math and measurement understanding
- Good attention to detail and quality awareness
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
- Strong reliability and communication skills
- Willingness to rotate and adapt to different tasks
