About the Role

We’re launching a new pop-up gallery in Harlem and seeking a driven, emerging curator who’s ready to make their mark. This is a hands-on opportunity to lead exhibitions from concept to close, build your network, and shape a public-facing art space rooted in Harlem’s creative energy.

You’ll curate shows, manage artist relationships, handle installation and press, and drive community engagement. Ideal for someone with 1–4 years of gallery or curatorial experience who’s hungry to grow.

Key Responsibilities

Curate and produce 1–2 pop-up exhibitions (6–8 week or short-run formats)

Source artists, negotiate consignment terms, and manage artwork intake

Oversee installation, lighting, and gallery layout

Develop and execute press, social media, and community outreach strategies

Plan and host public programs (openings, talks, workshops)

Manage on-site sales, POS systems, and artist payouts

Maintain inventory, condition reports, and insurance documentation

Represent the gallery at events and in the local arts scene

Qualifications

Required:

1–4 years experience in galleries, curatorial programs, or arts nonprofits

Strong ties to NYC’s art community and emerging artists

Experience producing exhibitions or cultural events

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Available evenings/weekends during events

Preferred:

Existing press or collector contacts

Experience with social media, Eventbrite, or email marketing

Background in community-centered programming

Familiarity with POS systems and consignment sales

Compensation

Commission-based: 10–20% of gross sales or a share of gallery commission (negotiable)

Optional stipend per show based on experience and scope

Performance bonuses for sales, press, and attendance milestones
