About the Role

This group supports emissions . They own everything in the test cells for emissions—including any data acquisition equipment, servicing, maintenance, repairing, and testing inside the building.

You’ll be part of a hands-on, technically advanced team working in a state-of-the-art emissions test facility. As an Automotive Mechanical Technician, you will help ensure the reliable operation of critical testing equipment while supporting the development of global vehicle lineup, including advanced EV and hybrid platforms.

What You’ll Do

Instrumentation & Equipment Technicians may be responsible for:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing test cell facility equipment, including:

o Drive systems, fuel systems, dynamometers, pumps, heaters, heat exchangers

o Installing/calibrating cell transducers, vibration data collection, filter replacement

o Harness and wiring diagnostics

  • Installing, calibrating, setting up, and troubleshooting emissions measurement equipment
  • Performing scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance
  • Supporting test validation for all global GM vehicle emissions testing – including emerging EV and hybrid technologies

Typical Workday

  • Start shift with a team meeting led by your Team Lead
  • Review assignments and daily goals
  • Execute maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting tasks
  • Collaborate with teammates or work independently depending on project needs
  • Pass along job status and notes to next shift as required

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in an electrical or mechanical field (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on mechanical/electrical experience (or strong co-op/internship background)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills; ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics
  • Comfortable working with high-voltage systems (480VAC / 1000VDC)
  • Familiarity with emissions test systems, welding, and fabrication a plus
  • Self-directed with the ability to learn and eventually manage your own workload
