Job Title: Reference Librarian
Department: Stark County Law Library
Reports To: Library Director
Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Compensation: $19–$24/hour, based on qualifications and experience

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

 

Position Overview

The Stark County Law Library is pleased to invite applications for the position of Reference Librarian. We are seeking a knowledgeable, resourceful, and service-oriented professional with a passion for research and a commitment to supporting both the legal community and the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, high-quality legal and reference assistance 
  • Help library users navigate legal databases, case law, statutes, and court rules
  • Support daily library operations, including circulation and usage reporting
  • Stay current on legal research trends through ongoing professional development 
  • Maintain and evaluate print and digital legal collections
  • Recommend new resources and identify outdated materials for removal 
  • Manage and troubleshoot access to legal research platforms (ex. Westlaw, Lexis, Fastcase, NCLC)
  • Monitor updates in legal technology and digital research tools
  • Create and maintain accurate catalog records using Library of Congress classification
  • Ensure materials are easily searchable and discoverable in the library’s catalog
  • Collaborate with court staff and attorneys to anticipate and support research needs
  • Promote library services through outreach, newsletters and social media
  • Performs additional responsibilities as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent experience in a legal or library setting
  • Proficiency in research tools and databases
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
