Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and motivated Junior Estimator to provide essential support to our Estimating and Project Management teams. This is an entry-level position with strong potential for growth into a more technical estimating role.
The Junior Estimator will assist with a wide range of tasks related to bidding, procurement, and preconstruction planning. Key responsibilities include supporting the preparation of take-offs, reviewing architectural drawings, tracking drawing updates, organizing bid documentation, and helping gather quotes from vendors. This position offers valuable exposure to the estimating process and is ideal for someone who wants to build a career in residential landscape construction.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-directed, and a team player, with an interest in landscape construction and an understanding of plans, materials, and estimating concepts. Prior experience is a plus, but not required, we are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates strong initiative and attention to detail.
General Duties:
- Create bid packages to send to vendors for quotes
- Request and follow up on vendor quotes, save quotes to bid or PM folders
- Create plant lists to send to our plant buyers for pricing
- Track, organize, and save issued drawings into bid or project folders
- Log into our GC's web portals (ProCore or other) and download drawing updates for bids or projects, and save to bid/PM folder
- Track and organize addenda and drawing updates
- Maintain bid folders and file structure (drawings, specs, RFIs)
- Begin drafting change orders when new scope is identified; log them as potential CORs and help maintain the COR log
- Organize, track, and save COR documentation and requests
- Basic takeoffs (counts, area takeoffs)
- Gather and track material samples and products from vendors
- Prepare submittal packages, transmittals, documents with photo submittals, etc.
- Log submittals and monitor submittal status in the submittal log
- Communicate with vendors and subcontractors about lead times and deliveries
- Review plans and specs to identify landscape scope of work on projects
- Attend preconstruction walkthroughs, document existing jobsite conditions
- Attend and record accurate meeting minutes, distribute, and file
- Assist in creating project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, warranty, and operations manuals

Job Requirements:
Technical Skills:
- Proficient reading and understanding construction plans, including the ability to interpret plan scales
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Spreadsheets
- Strong math skills
- Proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff, ProEst, PlanSwift, or similar computerized takeoff applications
- Tech-savvy; comfortable learning and adapting to new software tools and platforms
- Strong general computer skills (Microsoft Office, Mac OSX, iOS devices)
- Working proficiency in Dropbox and Google Suite
- Valid CA driver’s license with a clean driving record

Preferred qualifications:
- Degree or Certification in Landscape Management, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
- 2-3 year’s of experience in an Estimating or Project Management role within a landscape construction organization (residential experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of landscape installation practices

Compensation:
Full-time position
Competitive salary: 65,000 – 75,000 DOE
