Responsibilities:

The Mechanic, under direction, is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and routine service of all heavy equipment, motor vehicles, machine tools, other equipment, and mechanical systems.  Directly performs those maintenance, repair, and service activities necessary to enable the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all equipment, tools, and vehicles.  Reports accurate inventory of supplies, fuels, and lubricants.

Principal Duties:

1.    Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment.

2.    Perform inspections of equipment to determine it’s general condition, if any repair is necessary, and parts required.

3.    Monitors and reports inventory of supplies, fuels, and lubricants.

4.    All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1.    Possession of a high school diploma or GED is preferred.

2.    Must have at least two (2) years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of varied types of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and other related equipment commonly used in a sanitary landfill.  These experience requirements may be offset by formal training or similar experience in equipment maintenance and repair.

3.    Must have knowledge of proper welding techniques and ability to perform maintenance type welding.

4.    Must have knowledge of varied types of motors, engines, and pumps and their operation.

5.    Must have ability to analyze mechanical problems.


6.    Must have ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.

7.    Must have demonstrated skill in using mechanic's hand tools and small power tools.

8.    Must have demonstrated skill in the use of a variety of test and diagnostic equipment.

9.    Possession of a Pennsylvania Driver's License is preferred.

10.    Must have the ability to work independently and the initiative and interest to develop his/her own resources.

11.    Must have ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

12.    Must have the ability to sit and/or stand for a period of eight (8) hours.

13.    Must have the ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.

14.    Must have the ability to physically and mentally perform required duties with reasonable accommodations without endangering the health and safety of oneself or others.
