Key Responsibilities

  • Lead safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate gymnastics classes for children ages 2 years and up
  • Implement structured lesson plans that support skill progression, fitness, and fun across all gymnastics events
  • Provide positive behavior management and foster an inclusive, encouraging class environment
  • Assist with class setup and breakdown, ensuring all equipment is safe, clean, and properly maintained
  • Actively spot gymnasts and provide corrections to support learning and injury prevention
  • Communicate with families and caregivers about student progress and program updates
  • Collaborate with fellow coaches to align curriculum, classroom strategies, and program goals
  • Support seasonal events such as recreational showcases, family engagement days, and community promotions

Essential Experience

  • Entry-Level Candidates: At least 6-12 months experience working with children in a recreational, camp, classroom, or athletic setting
  • Mid-Advanced Candidates: 1–3+ years of gymnastics instruction experience in a structured recreational program, youth athletics, or physical education
  • Experience working with children in group or class settings
  • Prior exposure to progressive skill development, safety spotting, or curriculum-based instruction preferred

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Current high school students aged 16+ with valid working papers are welcome to apply (for per diem or part-time roles)
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in education, kinesiology, physical education, or a related field preferred for advanced or full-time positions

Additional Qualifications:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • USAG Recreational Coach Certification (preferred; training support available for eligible candidates)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and safely spot athletes during instruction
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with children and families
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude and a commitment to creating inclusive learning environments
  • Familiarity with basic technology tools such as email, attendance systems, or class management apps (training provided)
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding the YWCA’s mission of equity, empowerment, and inclusive youth development

Schedules:

Full-Time

Head Recreational Instructor: Tue–Fri, 11:00 AM–7:00 PM, Sat 9:00 AM–5:00

Recreational Instructor:

  • Mon–Thu 1:30–8:45 PM, Fri 11:15 AM–6:30 PM
  • Tue–Thu 1:30–8:45 PM, Fri 11:15 AM–6:30 PM, Sat 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

- Sign-On Bonus: $1,260.00-$1,470.00 on first paycheck (based on schedule)

- Retention Bonus (Upon Completion 90 Days): $1,260.00-$1,470.00

- Hourly Increase Potential: $1.00-$2.00/hr after 12 months

Part-Time

  • Recreational Instructor: Sat 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Per Diem

  • Recreational Instructor: Mon–Fri 3:45 PM–6:30 PM

- Sign-On Bonus: $720.00-$840.00 on first paycheck (based on schedule)

- Retention Bonus (Upon completion of 90 Days): $720.00-$840.00

- Hourly Increase Potential: $1.00-$2.00/hr after 12 months
