About Thomas for Them Inc. (T4T):
Thomas for Them Inc. (T4T) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals who are experiencing homelessness, displacement, and incarceration reunite with their families. We specialize in reuniting families, providing reentry support to former inmates, and promoting child safety in our community. Through innovative programs like A New Step Forward (Inmate Program), Operation My Child (Child Protection), and Re-Locked In (Family Reunification), we work tirelessly to rebuild relationships and give people a second chance at a stable, connected life.
We are currently seeking passionate, driven, and compassionate individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a volunteer board member, you will help guide the strategic direction, ensure the organization's sustainability, and make an impactful difference in the lives of South Florida’s most vulnerable communities.
Position Overview:
The Board of Directors serves as the governing body of Thomas for Them Inc., providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction to the organization. Board members are expected to contribute their time, expertise, and resources to support the mission of T4T and help achieve its goals of family reunification, homeless outreach, and community support. Board members will participate in regular meetings, support fundraising efforts, and assist with organizational planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Governance:
- Help define the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
- Ensure the organization’s programs and services align with its mission.
- Oversee financial health and risk management of the organization.
- Approve budgets and major expenditures.
- Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Support fundraising efforts by helping identify potential donors, sponsors, and partners.
- Participate in fundraising events, donor meetings, and grant-writing initiatives.
- Contribute to the organization’s financial sustainability through personal giving, networking, or other forms of support.
- Strategic Planning and Program Oversight:
- Actively contribute to the development of long-term strategic goals and objectives.
- Provide input on program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Help ensure the organization remains effective, efficient, and transparent.
- Community Engagement:
- Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for T4T within the community.
- Assist in building relationships with key stakeholders, including local businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and the general public.
- Promote T4T’s mission through networking, social media, and public appearances.
- Committee Participation:
- Participate in one or more committees that focus on specific areas such as fundraising, program evaluation, legal/ethics, or marketing/communications.
Qualifications:
- Passion for the Mission: Strong commitment to the mission of T4T and a belief in the power of family reunification, social justice, and community support.
- Leadership Experience: Previous experience serving on a board of directors, advisory board, or in a leadership role within an organization is desirable but not required.
- Skills and Expertise:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: nonprofit governance, fundraising, finance/accounting, law, marketing/communications, social services, or community outreach.
- Experience with homelessness, incarceration, family reunification, or child safety issues is highly valued.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with board members, staff, donors, and community members.
- Collaboration: A team player who works well in a collaborative, volunteer-driven environment.
- Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to the challenges faced by individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those affected by homelessness, incarceration, and family displacement.
- Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI): Ability to approach decision-making with a DEI lens, ensuring T4T’s services are accessible and inclusive.

Key Role Descriptions
President (Board Chair):
The President serves as the leader of the Board of Directors, providing strategic oversight and ensuring effective governance of Thomas for Them Inc. (T4T).
Key Responsibilities:
- Preside over board meetings and ensure their effectiveness.
- Act as the primary spokesperson and representative of T4T in the community.
- Collaborate with board members and the Executive Director to set strategic goals and priorities.
- Ensure the board fulfills its fiduciary and ethical responsibilities.
- Oversee the performance of board committees and ensure alignment with T4T's mission.
Vice President:
The Vice President supports the President and serves as a key advisor and leader in the absence of the President.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the President in managing board activities and strategic initiatives.
- Chair committees or task forces as needed.
- Step in for the President when unavailable, assuming leadership and representation responsibilities.
- Act as a liaison between the board and committees, ensuring communication and coordination.
Secretary:
The Secretary ensures accurate documentation of board activities and decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record and distribute minutes of all board meetings.
- Maintain and organize official documents, including bylaws, policies, and board rosters.
- Ensure compliance with organizational and legal record-keeping requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of meeting agendas and schedules.
Treasurer:
The Treasurer oversees the financial health and accountability of T4T.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide regular financial reports and updates to the board.
- Collaborate with staff to develop and monitor the budget.
- Ensure proper financial controls and risk management practices.
- Support fundraising efforts and donor stewardship, contributing to T4T's financial sustainability.
