Position Overview: Technical Writer and Editor
We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Writer and Editor to join our growing team. In this key role, you will draft, revise, and manage estate planning documents, ensuring they meet clients’ needs while adhering to our firm’s high standards of accuracy and efficiency. As part of our mission, this position plays an essential role in helping clients navigate important decisions regarding their families’ futures, offering them hope and peace of mind through Relational Estate Planning®.
This is an entry-level position, with no prior legal experience necessary. We are looking for someone eager to learn, with the opportunity for growth and advancement as our firm continues to expand.
Location: This position can be remote or in-person at our Winchester or Ashburn office.
Position Type: Part-time
Job Responsibilities:
- Draft and revise estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney.
- Ensure documents are accurate, complete, and tailored to clients’ specific needs.
- Proactively follow up with clients to keep the document process moving smoothly.
- Attend and document Estate Planning client meetings/calls, moving client matters forward as assigned (if in-person).
- Communicate with clients to address questions and ensure timely execution of documents.
- Prepare estate documents for client execution at both the Winchester and Ashburn locations (if in-person).
- Participate as a witness in weekly estate document signings in the Winchester office, and serve as a backup witness for Ashburn signings when needed (if in-person).
- Answer phones during assigned time periods and assist with intake when necessary, ensuring accurate client information collection (if in-person).
What We Are Looking For:
- The ability to understand and respond to client needs with empathy.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Clear, concise communication both in writing and face-to-face with clients and team members.
- Proficient in proofreading, editing, and revising documents, with strong spelling and grammar skills.
- Able to manage follow-ups and keep client matters organized and moving forward.
- A passion for writing and the ability to work with complex legal documents for long periods.
Requirements:
- 1+ years of proven experience as a document drafter, technical writer, editor, or similar role (preferred)
- Exceptional writing, grammar, and editing skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely
