Job Description 

Title: Director/Head Teacher 

The Presbyterian Preschool

142 E Court St. Woodstock, VA 22664

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 1:15 p.m. (during school year, plus preparation time the month of August) 

Qualifications: Has held a college degree and professional teaching license in (at least) PreK-3rd grades. Able to create a sense of community among staff, children and families. Sensitive to the needs of children and what constitutes a sound program for young children. Capacity to actively seek and take advantage of opportunities for professional development for staff. Able to maintain daily and yearly business functions of preschool. Have a willingness to collaborate and periodically report to pastor or designee from church. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a program of instruction that is in compliance with the established philosophy and goals of The Presbyterian Preschool
  • Assure the safety and well being of each child by following all state and local regulations that pertain to a religiously exempt child care center
  • Maintain an environment that is attractive, stimulating, safe and sanitary for the children (daily sanitizing of toys, materials, etc)
  • Assure proper use of the church facility and all preschool equipment, furnishings, and materials
  • Correspond with preschool parents on a regular basis
  • Maintain all financial and regulatory records. This will include, but not be limited to: checking account, state required inspection records, monthly fire safety reports, state required background checks and trainings for staff, etc. and report to church
  • Purchase materials as necessary
  • Conduct developmental screenings for four-year-olds
  • Conduct registration for the following school year and maintain a waiting list for prospective students
  • Select and orient staff to work at the preschool and hire necessary replacements when vacancies occur
  • Provide or make available in-service training for staff members.
  • Greet children and families as they enter the room
  • Perform daily health screening on each child as they enter the room
  • Implement a system of limits, rules and regulations which make it possible for adults and children to function in a safe environment
  • Maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Secure a substitute teacher for personal absences (background checked)
