Overview
Our technician assistant position is the veterinary technician's primary support. This person will have a significant role in freeing up the technicians to assist the veterinarians with medical procedures. The assistant will aid in greater efficiency by relieving the technicians of some of the routine work. The assistant may assist in restraining pets, and setting up for some tests and procedures.

Performance Expectations

  • Provide compassionate care to care to patients and clients.
  • Conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks.
  • Maintains a positive, cooperative relationship with other employees.
  • Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility, does not hesitate to clean or organize as part of a normal job duty.
  • Willing and able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to tolerate loud noises and strong odors on a daily basis.
  • Willing and able to sweep and mop daily.
  • Willing and able to walk dogs on a leash of all sizes.
  • Keep the treatment area tidy at all times.
  • Wash and fold laundry daily.
  • Stock treatment, surgery and exam rooms daily.
  • Care for and maintain surgery equipment as needed.
  • Restrain animals of all sizes and temperaments, with guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including in other areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous on the job experience desirable, but not required.
  • Previous animal care background is desirable, but not required.

Personal Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals, and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed out, ill or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • Well Spoken and approaches his/her job duties in a mature nature.
  • Can support and be a part of teamwork; works well with all levels of hospital team members.
  • Has excellent communication skills
  • Position requires a lot of standing, walking, lifting, bending over and squatting.
  • May be exposed to loud noises, animal urine and feces, animal bites and scratches and animal contagious diseases.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $19.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
