Accounting Clerk

Heart O' Texas Federal Credit Union is searching for an Accounting Clerk. The successful candidate will be capable of learning our system with minimal supervision. He or she should be extremely organized and have excellent time management skills. The Accounting Clerk will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work as a team to carry out goals and quotas. 

Basic Functions:

  • Process ACH posting exceptions, returns, and stop payments.
  • Process Share Draft exceptions.
  • Process reclamations.
  • Post ATM activity to General Ledger.
  • Process Debit Card posting exceptions.
  • Debit Card Network balancing.
  • Approve and process internal wire transfer requests.
  • Review and log member wire transfers.
  • Bank statement reconciliations.
  • Input Journal entries into the accounting system.
  • Process Accounts Payable invoices. (Code for payment, obtain approval, and prepare and print check)
  • Reconciliation of specific General Ledger account activity
  • Gather requested information, specific to the accounting department, for audits and exams 
  • Maintain various spreadsheets
  • Review outstanding Teller and AP Checks, contact vendors and/or make journal entries as needed.
  • Reliable, regular attendance is required for this position.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel. At a minimum: Formatting, Formulas, Graphs, Charts, and multiple tab worksheets.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Assist with accomplishing team goals.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Effective people skills with the ability to collaborate with individuals and groups at all organization levels; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, organizational, problem-prevention and critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of credit union rules and regulations.
  • Ability to keep confidentiality of sensitive information.

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Accounting experience in a financial institution preferred with 1-3 years of experience. ACH processing preferred. 
  • Must be bondable, pass background check and credit check.
