Job Overview:

We are looking for a passionate and driven Canvassing Reporter to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for going out into communities, connecting with people face-to-face, and gathering real, on-the-ground insights. You will help bring stories to life by engaging with sources, understanding local issues, and capturing the authentic voice of the community. Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct face-to-face interviews with individuals in assigned communities to gather information and insights.

• Build trust with community members to encourage honest and open communication.

• Identify compelling stories and trending topics based on grassroots feedback.

• Write engaging, well-researched, and factual articles that reflect the voices and stories of the community.

• Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure stories meet journalistic standards and align with editorial priorities.

• Attend local events, community meetings, and other public gatherings to capture perspectives and report on current issues.

• Adapt reporting style to suit different types of content, including short-form social media posts, in-depth articles, and multimedia features.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred but not required

• Proven experience in journalism, reporting, or community engagement preferred.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds.

• Excellent writing and storytelling skills.

• Ability to work independently in the field and manage time effectively.

• Knowledge of AP style or similar journalistic standards.

• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Skills:

• Bilingual or multilingual abilities.

• Experience with multimedia reporting (audio, photo, video).

• Familiarity with local issues or topics pertinent to the target communities.

• Digital content creation skills, including social media, basic photography, and video editing.
