We are seeking a geology undergraduate to join our construction team as a concrete petrographer. The ideal candidate will assist in various concrete-related tasks in the laboratory from sample preparation to chemical analysis to microscopy, contributing to the successful completion of projects. Candidate will be thoroughly trained in house but should have knowledge on geology (mainly mineralogy and petrology).
Duties:
- Perform sectioning, lapping, and thin sectioning of concrete cores
- Document information
- Observe concrete under microscope and prepare reports
- Perform chemical analysis of concrete in the lab
- Perform X-ray diffraction, and other advanced techniques after successful training
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe work environment
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in geology
- Courses taken in mineralogy and petrology
- Courses taken in optical mineralogy and petrography
- Physical stamina and strength to perform labor-intensive tasks
- Pleasant personality to work with a team
- Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
No experience in concrete science is needed, which will be trained in house, salary is commensurate to the 6 month to a year of training period and experience.
