Do you love to travel off the beaten path, experience life as a local and make friends with people all over the world? Are you passionate about advancing economic opportunities and preserving culture for communities in developing countries?
Adventure Homestay is a new mission-driven startup that connects adventure travelers with vetted family homestays and experiences in traditional communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We have an opening for an entrepreneurial, Spanish-speaking intern to travel independently to Cuba and work with current and prospective hosts. This is an immersion experience that will involve staying with local families, in-country travel and meeting with a wide variety of people.
Participants will work remotely with the founder of Adventure Homestay, a social entrepreneur who has over 15 years' experience working in international development and founding organizations in developing countries, and will have the opportunity to participate in the early development of a mission-driven tech startup.
Responsibilities:
Stay and/or meet with a variety of vetted current and prospective homestay hosts
Provide basic training in hosting best practices and how to interact with international visitors
Help prospective hosts create listings on our platform, and help existing hosts with any questions about how to use it
Participate in experiences (tours, hiking, cooking, meals, classes, etc) of your choice, and help interested hosts post experience listings on the platform
Publish blog posts about your homestay experiences and guides for future travelers
Work with Adventure Homestay founder to improve the website and product design based on host feedback
Establish partnerships with local NGOs and language schools to facilitate accommodation for program participants
Help with outreach to prospective travelers via social media, student organizations and travel blogs
Qualifications:
Self-motivation and creativity, and ability to achieve results with a high level of autonomy
Experience in developing countries, and comfort with traveling and staying in local homestays independently
Proficiency in Spanish language
IMPORTANT NOTES:
This is an unpaid, self-financed internship. While there is no fee for participating, interns are responsible for all costs, including flight, in-country transportation, homestay accommodation and experiences, meals, etc.
We are headquartered in the US and do not have staff in country. Interns will be supervised (remotely) by the founder and communicate frequently via email and teleconference, but should be comfortable operating with a large degree of autonomy on a day-to-day basis.
Internship dates and locations in country are flexible; we recommend a minimum duration of two weeks.
