A typical day as PCYC’s Servant Leader Intern provides an opportunity to work, lead, and teach scholars with the curriculum provided by CDF (Children’s Defense Fund) Freedom Schools. The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost scholar motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of scholars and families to the resources of their communities. Responsibilities will include the following:

• Serving as a positive role model for all scholars.
• Supervising and maintaining the safety of scholars.
• Maintaining a professional decorum.
• Setting up, managing, and breaking down classroom space according to standards outlined by CDF and the sponsor organization.
• Engaging a maximum of 10 scholars per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum.
• Creating, submitting, and implementing lesson plans.
• Attending daily debriefings.
• Participating in Harambee and all engagement practices.
• Creating and implementing afternoon enrichment activities.
• Working with site staff to ensure that all program components are implemented with fidelity.
• Reporting any issues or concerns regarding program operations to the Site Coordinator.
