Temple Beth Ohr of La Mirada, a URJ-affiliated Reform Jewish Temple, is searching for our next part time Cantor. We are an intimate congregation of around 150 households. Our congregation is comprised of congregants that span the generations: young families, those with adult children, and active seniors. Temple Beth Ohr is a place of creative, innovative, and inspirational Reform Judaism. We have a strong Religious and Hebrew Learning Lab, planned activities for our teenagers, a strong Sisterhood and Brotherhood, and an Adult Education series. We offer uplifting and meaningful Shabbat and holiday worship services, life-cycle events, and opportunities for enrichment and connection. We welcome singles, seniors and families of all compositions.

The Cantor is an integral part of our Temple: a pulpit partner with the Rabbi, source of musical inspiration in the worship service, and song leader/educator for our youth. We are looking for a cantor who works collaboratively and one who is innovative and creative in advancing our congregation’s vision of sacred time, sacred learning, and sacred relationships. Duties Include: Avodah (Prayer) In collaboration with the Rabbi, the Cantor/soloist will be a creative leader in the design and expression of music in worship services.

The Cantor/soloist will coordinate Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe) Choir rehearsals, if there’s a choir. The Cantor/soloist will support Temple and Auxiliary activities as needed. Chinuch (Education) The Cantor/soloist is the musical leader of our Religious School and Hebrew Lab and will implement our music curricula that brings the joy of Jewish music to our students. The Cantor/soloist will participate directly in leading various youth services, vocal ensembles, classroom, and small group interactions including Religious School morning t'fillah and Hebrew Lab ma'ariv worship services. The Cantor/soloist will be a coordinator and partner in the Hebrew Lab and will work directly with the students teaching them their Torah & Haftarah trope, prayers and reviewing the Hebrew liturgy to help prepare for their b’nai mitzvah. S’machot v' Avelut (happy occasions/mourning) The Cantor/soloist will be a regular member of our pastoral team, and will be welcomed as co-officiant at members’ life-cycle events. Compensation $32,000 – $36,000 Paid Sick Leave and Paid Vacation (defined in contract). Application Guidance Temple Beth Ohr welcomes applicants who are Ordained Cantors, Cantorial Soloists, and Cantorial Interns, who have experience working with children and adults of all ages and who have led services on their own, and who can teach from the pulpit if leading alone without the rabbi. Preference to members of a professional association of Reform Cantors.

Applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest, resume and two (2) sample recordings, Interviews and Recitals, to Joann Kotkin, Co-chair, at ------------ and Leslie Berger at ------------, Co-chair.
